Emergency Plumber in Johannesburg

When water is coming through the ceiling, you need a plumber now. Supa Nova handles plumbing emergencies across Johannesburg from our base in Maryvale. Being central means a short drive to Sandton, Rosebank, Bedfordview and Edenvale. We’re not a 24-hour service. Call us during working hours (Monday to Friday, 7:00 to 17:00, and Saturdays by prior arrangement) and we’ll prioritise burst pipes and geysers. Our average response time is 1 to 2 hours.

What counts as a plumbing emergency

  • Burst pipes: water spraying in walls, ceilings or the garden
  • Burst geysers: water through the ceiling or pouring from the roof
  • Sewage backing up into the house
  • No water at all when the municipal supply is on
  • A leak you can’t stop with the isolating valve

What to do before we arrive

  1. Close the main water valve. It’s usually at the water meter on the pavement or just inside your property boundary.
  2. Switch off the geyser at the DB board if the leak is from the geyser or hot-water pipes.
  3. Switch off the electricity to any area where water is near plugs, lights or the DB board.
  4. Take photos for your insurance claim.
  5. Move what you can away from the water.

Burst pipe repairs

Burst pipes are the most common emergency we attend. In Johannesburg, the causes are usually:

  • Old galvanised pipes that have rusted through
  • Pressure surges when the water comes back on after an outage
  • Poorly supported pipes in the roof that move and crack at the joints
  • Ground movement damaging underground lines

We find the burst, repair or replace the damaged section, and pressure-test the line. If your pipes are failing in several places, we’ll tell you whether replacing that section makes more sense than patching it.

Frequently asked questions

How much does an emergency plumber cost?

There’s no call-out fee, even for urgent jobs. You pay for labour and a travelling fee, plus parts. The travelling fee is R400. Our hourly rate is available on request, and quotations are free. We tell you the costs on the phone before we come out.

Who do I call if the burst is on the street?

Burst pipes on the municipal side of the meter are Johannesburg Water’s responsibility: call 011 375 5555. Anything on your side of the meter is the property owner’s responsibility.

Will my insurance pay?

Most home insurance covers damage from a burst pipe or geyser. The repair of the pipe itself is sometimes excluded. We can provide a report for your claim.
