Plumbing COC in Johannesburg

A plumbing Certificate of Compliance (COC) confirms that plumbing work meets the national standard, SANS 10252. In Johannesburg you need one for new installations, such as a geyser, and many sellers are asked for one before transfer. Supa Nova inspects, repairs and certifies plumbing in homes across Johannesburg.

When you need a plumbing COC

  • Selling a property in Johannesburg, when your buyer, bank or conveyancer asks for one
  • After a new geyser installation or replacement
  • After new plumbing work, such as a bathroom or kitchen renovation

What we check

  • Geyser installation: drip tray, overflow, pressure valve, vacuum breakers and the electrical isolator
  • Water supply: leaks at the meter, pipe condition and that the meter isn’t running when every tap is off
  • Drainage: that stormwater isn’t connected to the sewer, a common reason for failing
  • Fixtures: taps, toilets and showers for leaks and backflow protection

Why homes fail

  1. Stormwater connected to the sewer, for example gutters or downpipes draining into a gully
  2. Geysers without a drip tray or with the overflow ending in the roof
  3. Leaks showing on the meter
  4. Missing vacuum breakers on the geyser

We quote to fix any failures and then issue the certificate.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a plumbing COC cost?

The inspection fee depends on the property’s size and the number of bathrooms. The travelling fee is R400. Our hourly rate is available on request, and quotations are free.

Can any plumber issue a COC?

No. Only a plumber licensed with the Plumbing Industry Registration Board (PIRB) can issue one.

Do I need both a plumbing and an electrical COC?

For a property sale, you need an electrical COC. Ask your conveyancer whether a plumbing certificate is also needed for your sale. If it is, we can do both in one visit. See electrical COC.
